  • Hold it above the basin and incubate it with hydrogen peroxide. Use normal saline or tap water to rinse it and then dry it inside-out. With careful hands, rinse the inner cannula with either saline or tap water.

Insert the inner cannula again and remove the soiled gauze dressing around the neck. Now with the help of swabs, clean the exposed parts of the outer cannula and use the washcloth to remove the hydrogen peroxide and clean the skin. The outer cannula is to be dried with the skin around the stoma following the change of the trach tube ties ahead.
